Caring for your Board

Congratulations on your purchase…

of a quality cutting board, charcuterie board, or noodle board. A wooden board is a natural product that can warp, crack, or split if not maintained properly. Fortunately, a few easy steps can be taken to ensure your investment lasts many years to come.

How to Care for Your Board

Your board has come with a food safe finish of mineral oil and beeswax already applied.  You will need to rub all surfaces of your board with food safe mineral oil occasionally, depending on how often you use and wash your board. My personal board is used frequently and I apply fresh mineral oil and beeswax monthly. If, when you wash your board, water does not readily roll off the surface or the board does not dry quickly, it is time to re-oil. Our own home-made board butter, a mixture of food safe mineral oil and beeswax, is available on our website, at llwoodencreations.com.

Never put your board in the dishwasher. We cannot stress this enough. It will quickly warp and crack with no way to repair and is the number one reason boards are destroyed.

Do not soak your board in water. Same reasons, warping, cracking, destroying.

To wash your board, run hot soapy water over the board, wash debris off, and then rinse quickly. Allow water to run off board then put it on the counter to dry completely before placing in a cupboard. Mine has an honored space on the counter permanently.

To rid your board of odors, try one of the following: Odors from acidic foods – sprinkle baking soda and a small amount of water, rub onto the surface then let sit for half an hour. Rinse the board. Odors from alkaline foods – sprinkle with white vinegar, rub onto the board then let sit for half and hour. Rinse the board. The board may need re-oiled after this process.

If your board becomes gouged by overly aggressive knives, or over time it has simply worn a bit, there are options to bring it back to that bright, beautiful, new look. We offer a resurfacing service, check llwoodencreations.com for details. Properly cared for boards purchased from us receive one free resurface, you simply pay shipping.
